How to say dates

Derek Rogers asked 12 months ago

My teacher gave me these two examples:
– Wednesday the fifth of January is a good day. Środa piętnastego stycznia jest dobry dzień.
– I’ll come on Wednesday the fifth. Przyjdę w środę piętnastego.
Środa/Środe is fem. in both sentences, nom. in the first example and acc. in the second. But piętnastego is masc. gen. in both cases. The ordinal denoting the day within the month seems to be an invariable masc. gen. (“Wednesday OF THE FIFTH – Oh, THAT Wednesday!”).
